Getting Permission from Rosh to use his song 'Embrace this day'.

In July 2014 I had to find what song to use, so I texted my friend who makes music asking permission to use his song, I have known Rosh for many years, and I really enjoy his music, and considering he makes it all himself (and is only 18) I really admire his work as an artist. I had to download the song from SoundCloud - a music app. From this, I then analysed similar music videos to the genre of the song I chose.

Hit Me Baby One More Time Evaluation

In media we have done a brief task of filming the Britney Spears 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' music video, we only had to re-film the first 30 seconds, but it was still very confusing at first. We began by analysing the pop video to enable us to re-film each clip, once we had filmed each part of the video we had t

o import it to final cut express, the filming took about 40 minutes, and this was rather quick considering there are 18 shots in just a 30 second clip. On final cut express I learn how to match each part of the video footage to the audio track. This was the first time I have had to lock the track to the footage, I found it confusing and hard, but now I find it easy! This exercise will be very useful for my end project. 
Following the forms and conventions of a music video, Britney's music video has lip syncing, dancing, and it shows the artist. 
At first I found it difficult to edit the footage to make it match the audio, but once I had got the hang of it, I found it easier to do and it took me less time to edit each clip.


The two shots to the left are from my remake of the video. The significance of having Britney tapping her foot and looking at the clock is that it shows Britney is bored and has things to do. The close up of both of these things emphasises the fact that school is boring and makes the audience look at only her foot and the clock rather than elsewhere.


Other shots that are used is close ups of Britney singing, once again this attracts attention to her singing so the audience only watch her and don't look elsewhere. It also makes it easier to see what she is singing so you can understand the lyrics.

The lyrics of the song are about Britney and a boy. The lyrics are portrayed by Britney's dance moves, she comes across as angry and impatient. The term 'Hit me baby one more time' is referring to her wanting a boy to talk to her again.

6 - 10 seconds - britney tapping pen on the table looking up, slightly low angle shot.

11 - 12 seconds - back to britney tapping her pencil, eye line changes and shows her looking at the teacher in next shot.

Evaluation Part 2

Evaluation

What did I do well in my project?
I think that in my project I was good at planning and using my time carefully. From this I was able to have a few lessons spare at the end of my project to make sure that I had everything I wanted to have on my blog. I think that I was also efficient at filming my project, as it only took me an hour to film it, and this gave me more time to edit and make my film look more professional.

What could I have done better?
I could have added more of a range of shots in my film opening, and I could have made it more detailed. In my film opening I only have 1 close up of the actress, but I have many mid-shots and long shots. 

What I enjoyed doing in my project?
I enjoys the filming in my project, especially the continuity exercise because at the time I had never used final cut express or any other media programmes, so learning something new was exciting. I also enjoyed planning my film opening as there were no boundaries as to what my film could be about.

What I have learnt in my project?
I have learnt how to use final cut express and blogger.com. I have also learnt how to make a realistic film opening that is of a certain genre. I have learnt what foley sound is, I also have learnt about Torodovs theory, and the 180 degree rule.

I made a story board with post-it notes. From this I then made a still image video for my film opening with the titles so that I knew what my film opening would roughly look like. This also gave me more experience and knowledge on how to use final cut express, and made editing my film opening an easier and faster process.

Re-Filming

I had to re-film my opening because the lighting was behind the actress so it meant you could only see her shadow and no facial expressions. This only happened in one of the shots, but when watching my initial film opening I realised I didn't have many different shots, and I also didn't correctly film a 180degree rule. Due to these factors I thought it would be easier to re-film the whole opening sequence, instead of the actress having to wear the same clothes, and instead of having to make sure it'd be the same amount of daylight coming through the windows.
